vestis, is, f. [Sanscr. root vas-, to put on; Gr. ἑσ-, ϝεσ-; cf. ἕννυμι, ἐσθής], the covering for the body, clothes, clothing, attire, vesture (syn. amictus; in class. prose only sing.).
