Mĕlĭcerta and Mĕlĭcertes, ae, m., = Μελικέρτης, son of Ino and the Theban king Athamas. His mother, pursued by her husband in his madness, threw herself into the sea with Melicerta, who became a seagod, called by the Greeks Palaemon, and by the Romans Portunus, Ov. M. 4, 522; cf. Verg.
