ĕpī̆trĭtos, a, um, adj., = ἐπίτριτος, containing four thirds.

  1. I. In gen. (pure Lat. sesquitertius), in the relation of four to three, Gell. 18, 14, 5; Macr. Somn. Scip. 2, 1, § 15 al.; cf. as fin.
  2. II. Pes, a metrical foot, consisting of three long syllables and one short (a spondee with an iambus or trochee): ⏑–––, –⏑––, ––⏑–, –––⏑, Diom. p. 477 P. et saep.
